World War I and America & Long Island at War Program Series

stamina

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I.  Throughout the year, The Smithtown Library will host various programs and events in remembrance of this historic date with a program series titled World War I and America.    In addition, The Smithtown Library’s Long Island Room will present a corresponding program series titled Long Island at War, dedicated specifically toward examining Long Island’s participation in the nation’s war efforts since World War I.  A complementary Long Island Room exhibit will be on view throughout the year.  The Smithtown Library invites you to partake in these programs and events to commemorate the importance of America’s involvement in World War I and gain a deeper understanding of our veterans’ experiences over time.

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month

Library Card Sign-Up Month is the period when the American Library Association and libraries around the country remind everyone of the importance of owning a library card. Your library card delivers access to not only books but movies, music, computers and a variety of electronic databases. In addition to these items, your library card provides the opportunity to access many other Library services from both inside our branches as well as from home using the Library’s website.

New cardholders in September are invited to get their photo taken holding up a Smithtown Library Social Media frame; these pictures will be posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages through the month of September to celebrate our new members! All new cardholders will also receive a Smithtown Library Coupon Book with special discounts as well as a new member welcome brochure outlining all of the goods and services we offer.

Getting a library card is fast, easy and free. Adults must bring one item with their name and proof of their current address, such as a driver’s license or utility bill. Parents will need to sign the registration form on behalf of children 5th grade and younger.
For more information, see the Circulation or Reference Desk at any of our branches.
