3D Printers at The Smithtown Library

 

Thank you to the Friends of The Smithtown Library for donating 3D Printers to each of our Library branches.  Patrons can submit requests to have a designed printed.  These requests are reviewed to ensure they comply with the Library's policy, then sent to the requested pick-up location for printing.

Commack Branch Teen Programs

Battle of the Books
Tuesday, August 1, 8 • 4:00-5:30pm 
Thursdays, August 3, 10 • 4:00-5:30pm 
The Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition for young adults who wish to represent their public library. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 12 at Stony Brook University. Teams will answer trivia questions based on eight different books and score points for their team with each correct answer. To be eligible to participate, you must be entering grades 6-9; you must be able to attend meetings and must be ready for a summer of reading fun. Register
 
Chess Buddies Volunteers
Friday, August 4 • 4:00-5:00pm
Tuesday, August 15 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Teach younger children how to play chess. You do not have to be a chess expert to volunteer! There will be a 30-minute tutorial at the beginning. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Book Buddies Teen Volunteers
Monday, August 7 • 4:00-5:00pm 
Earn community service by reading to a younger book buddy. It is a rewarding experience that you won't want to miss. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Wax Candle Art
Tuesday, August 8 • 7:00-8:00pm 
Using granulated wax teens will make these interesting sand art candles to take home. Register
 
Rubber Stamp Workshop
Wednesdays, August 9, 16 4:30-5:30pm 
Teens will learn how to carve rubber stamps in this fun workshop. Please come to the first week with a simple bold 3”x3” image to carve into the rubber with linoleum carving tools. Register
 
Stained Glass Window Clings
Thursday, August 17  4:30-5:30pm 
Create a beautiful faux stained glass window by coloring these window clings that will stick to any window. Register
 
Junior LEGO® Buddies Volunteers
Wednesday, August 23 4:00-5:00pm
Be paired with a younger child and help him/her with their LEGO® creation. Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register
 
Bridge Building Competition Volunteers
Thursday, August 24 4:00-5:00pm 
Using tape and straws teens will assist younger children in creating bridges that will be put to the test! Each teen will receive one hour of community service. Register

Clay Charms

Using oven baked clay, some jewelry findings and your imagination we will create little charms. Register

Coastal Cleanup at the Kings Park Bluffs
Sunday, September 17 • 9:30-12:00pm Off-Site
Join us in making a difference in our community by ridding the Kings Park Bluffs of harmful trash that makes its way into the water and damages sea life.  We will meet at the Kings Park Bluffs to join A Voice For the Bluffs to collect, weigh and catalog the garbage found.  Teens will earn community service for their time and must have a parent or guardian sign a permission slip which can be picked up at the reference desk.  Teens must have their own transportation to and from the bluffs.  Register
 
ACT ReviewTuesdays
September 19, 26 • 6:00-8:30pm
Over 1 million students will be taking the ACTs this year; if you’re one of them, how prepared are you? This indispensable 4-week course will be led by long time ACT instructors. FEE: $88 per person. Register

Recycle Station

The Smithtown Library collects un-needed eyeglasses for recycling through the Suffolk Cooperative Library System's services for the sight-impaired.  glasses
The Library is no longer accepting cell phones for recycling.
